ISC and its partners organised the 9th edition of the Science Summit around the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) on 12-29 September 2023.
The role and contribution of science to attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be the central theme of the Summit. The objective is to develop and launch science collaborations to demonstrate global science mechanisms and activities to support the attainment of the UN SDGs, Agenda 2030 and Local2030. The meeting will also prepare input for the United Nations Summit of the Future, which will take place during UNGA79 beginning on 12 September 2024.

Michael Donovan serves as the Associate Director of the Evidence-to-Impact Collaborative and Assistant Research Professor of Social Science & Public Policy at the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) at Penn State University, leading strategic engagement and outreach efforts with the policy, philanthropic, and business communities. He facilitates and participates in collaborative projects between the research community and external partners, including federal, state, and local government agencies, philanthropic organizations, and think tanks. In recent years, he has contributed to collaborative research efforts related to equity, substance use and addiction, child maltreatment, rural health, juvenile justice, integrated data systems and data policy, research process innovation and improvement, the societal effects of COVID-19, and science communication and translation. His efforts aim to build and maintain strategic partnerships that both produce scientific value and contribute to the creation of policy-relevant, practical insights. 

He served as Special Assistant to President Obama during both administrations and has over 15 years of high-level experience in politics, management, foreign and domestic policy, scheduling, and advance operations. He has served in several political campaigns, Presidential inaugurations, and has participated in over 200 international visits in an official capacity for the U.S. government as well as in private capacities with external clients. 

He holds a B.A. from the Pennsylvania State University in Political Science with Minors in Spanish & International Studies and with study conducted at Kingston University-London and Universidad Complutense de Madrid; an M.A. in U.S. National Security Policy Studies from Georgetown University, and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Public Administration from the Smeal College of Business at the Pennsylvania State University.
