ISC and its partners organised the 9th edition of the Science Summit around the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) on 12-29 September 2023.
The role and contribution of science to attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be the central theme of the Summit. The objective is to develop and launch science collaborations to demonstrate global science mechanisms and activities to support the attainment of the UN SDGs, Agenda 2030 and Local2030. The meeting will also prepare input for the United Nations Summit of the Future, which will take place during UNGA79 beginning on 12 September 2024.

University of Queensland
PhD Candidate
Brisbane, Australia
I'm a 3rd year PhD candidate in microbiology. My project focuses on understanding how different E. coli survive and cause disease, and whether we can use that knowledge to speed up the discovery and development of new antibiotics and therapies.

Prior to my PhD, I co-founded and led an Indivisible chapter, working on voter outreach and education. I developed strategic partnerships for the group, and hosted a weekly radio show to spotlight local organizers and issues in the community.

Since moving to Australia for my PhD, I've become more interested and involved in science diplomacy projects. Particularly the role that international scientists like myself play as unofficial representatives for our home countries, and the types of support and expectations we experience from both our host and country of origin, and from other scientists.

I'm interested in doing a placement or part time work for public health or diplomacy projects.
