Prof. Gerald Maki is a Fall 2022 UNITAR Global Diplomacy Initiative Research Fellow and currently serves as a Professor of English at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, IN.
Prof. Maki completed doctoral coursework at Purdue University with backgrounds in Post-Colonial Literature and Theory and Cultural Studies. He has presented academic papers at over 35 conferences with multiple peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Gerald's faculty development efforts have been recognized by the North American Council for Staff, Professional, and Organizational Development. Gerald‘s educational experience also includes a fellowship from the University of Bonn, Germany to study globalization and the E.U.
In 2021, Prof. Maki received an award from the American Councils for International Education to design international virtual exchanges. Since that time his classes worked collaboratively with students in Central Asia on research projects addressing shared global challenges – such as the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 7: Clean and Affordable Energy Access and SDG 5: Gender Equality for All Women and Girls. He seeks to promote curriculum design and teaching practices that provide meaningful and ethically sensitive global learning opportunities for all. Gerald aims to empower faculty and students to view themselves as leaders in addressing urgent global needs.
