ISC and its partners organised the 9th edition of the Science Summit around the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) on 12-29 September 2023.
The role and contribution of science to attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be the central theme of the Summit. The objective is to develop and launch science collaborations to demonstrate global science mechanisms and activities to support the attainment of the UN SDGs, Agenda 2030 and Local2030. The meeting will also prepare input for the United Nations Summit of the Future, which will take place during UNGA79 beginning on 12 September 2024.

Since November 2022, Mari leads on Programmes and Partnerships for Imperial’s Global Development Hub – a strategic flagship project that brings together Imperial’s community to develop, amplify and support research and education impact in Lower Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

They are responsible for forming and managing a research impact and partnership accelerator network across Imperial disciplines and departments and for engaging the College’s research and innovation with external stakeholders, such as academia, governments, policymakers, multilateral organisations, NGOs, civil society and industry.

They also run high-impact academic community-building events, lectures and workshops that bring together Imperial academics from different disciplines to tackle development challenges.

Mari has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the University of São Paulo, and a non-Academic Masters in Applied Neurosciences and Psychology from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, in Brazil.

They also are a PRINCE 2 Certified project manager and have a professional certificate in Science Communications from the University of Bristol.

They are fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish, and, prior to joining Imperial, they worked as a Knowledge Analyst for the Boston Consulting Group and Science Managers for the British Embassy in Brasília.
