ISC and its partners organised the 9th edition of the Science Summit around the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) on 12-29 September 2023.
The role and contribution of science to attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be the central theme of the Summit. The objective is to develop and launch science collaborations to demonstrate global science mechanisms and activities to support the attainment of the UN SDGs, Agenda 2030 and Local2030. The meeting will also prepare input for the United Nations Summit of the Future, which will take place during UNGA79 beginning on 12 September 2024.

Adamu Addissie is a medical doctor, epidemiologist and bioethicist. He received his M.D. degree from Jimma University (Ethiopia); an M.P.H. from Addis Ababa University (AAU, Ethiopia); an M.A. in bioethics from the Universities of Leuven (Belgium), Nijmegen (the Netherlands), and Padua (Italy); and a Ph.D. from Brighton and Sussex Medical School (UK).

He is an associate professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at AAU’s College of Health Sciences (CHS).

Dr Addissie has over 20 years of professional experience as a clinician, medical director, researcher and academician. He is the founding chair of the NCD and Cancer Working Group at AAU, where he oversees a number of multidisciplinary research activities on major cancers in Ethiopia, mentors doctoral and post-doctoral research fellows, and provides policy-level evidence to the Ethiopian Ministry of Health.

He is also the board chair of the IRB at AAU-CHS and Editor-in-Chief of the Ethiopian Journal of Health Development (EJHD).
